Prototype Interest
GN 18500 belongs to the 18500–19499 series of 40' 6" inside-length, 12-panel steel boxcars built in 1949. Historical Great Northern information identifies this series as having a 10'2" inside height.
The Empire Builder lettering represented by this model was applied beginning in the mid-1950s, making this an excellent car for a late-1950s/1960s Great Northern freight consist.
